Boardman’s Chris Butler raced to a first place finish, outpacing 177 competitors, to lead Boardman High School to a first place finish at the 29th annual Valley Forge Patriot Invitational on Sept. 24 on the campus of Cuyahoga Community College West in Parma. The Spartans placed five runners in the top 10, with Butler’s time of 16:22, senior Nick Digiacomo placing second in 16:48, junior Mark Moradian sixth in 17:32, freshman Mitchell Dunham seventh at 17:33 and senior Nathaniel Ams capturing eighth in 17:48.

“This was our first time running at this invitational and we really did not know what to expect,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “After a tough week last week at Spartan and the Suburban League, and with county and AAC coming up, it was great to have a great team win today.”

Setting new personal bests on Saturday were juniors Tony Saab at 20:13 and Jason Fabian at 19:11, as well as freshmen Dunham at 17:33 and Steven Moradian at 21:50. Moradian earned this week’s BW-3 ‘Runner of the Week.’
