Submit information on Christmas

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The Christmas list will run on the Religion page Dec. 17 and New Year’s, Dec. 24.

The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Dec. 14.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb and time of Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day services and New Year’s Eve and/or New Year’s Day services. The information should be accompanied by a name and a phone number for verification or any questions.

Spirituality Day


Benedictine Sisters of Queen of Heaven Monastery, 169 Kenmore Ave. NE, will conduct a Spirituality Day from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Center, 180 Belvedere Ave. NE, in preparation for Christmas.

Presenter will be Archimandrite George Appleyard, priest of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma. His topic will be “Two Different Carols – One Priceless Song.”

There will be time for reflection, questions, refreshments and an opportunity to receive the Mystery (Sacrament) of Reconciliation. Participants also may pray vespers with the sisters.

Blue ChristmasService scheduled


Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., will conduct a Blue Christmas Service at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 27 for those in the community who are experiencing distress and loss during this season.

The service will include singing, prayer, a message and anointing for healing. People of all faiths and communities are welcome to attend.

Guest preacher


Prince of Peace Lutheran, 2985 Center Road, will welcome Bishop Abraham Allende as guest preacher at its worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Allende is bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Rev. Julianne D. Smith serves as pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran. All are welcome.

Advent luncheon


A women’s Advent luncheon is planned from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 27 at St. Patrick’s Church Hall, 225 N. Main St., with speaker Amy Sowers of St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville. Reservations are required and due by Wednesday.

There will be a raffle for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Participants are asked to bring a Christmas card for a child, unsigned and unsealed.

Cost is $16. Reservations must include name, phone number, mailing and email addresses and choice of chicken Chardonnay or prime sirloin roast of beef.
