Man’s body found behind W. Side plaza


Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found Tuesday in a wooded area behind the Mahoning Plaza on Mahoning Avenue.

The man was discovered by one of his friends about 12:20 p.m.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s office will rule on a cause of death. Police said the man was one of several people who would routinely go behind the plaza to drink.

Two in Boardman face drug charges


A township man and woman face drug-related charges.

After receiving a search warrant, police entered the home of Spann Newell, 40, and Lisa Golterman, 53, on Shields Road at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Officers arrested Spann and later detained Golterman after she attempted to escape from the residence. A search revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia, two handguns and other evidence such as digital scales with residue, police said.

Police charged Spann with trafficking drugs and having weapons under disability. Golterman is charged with drug abuse. Both are charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fire trustee sought


Hubbard council is seeking letters of interest for a trustee to serve on the board of the Eagle Joint Fire District. The appointee will serve a three-year term beginning January 2017.

Blockwatch meeting


The Powerstown Neighborhood Blockwatch will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 Midlothian Blvd.

Basia Adamczak, 7th Ward councilwoman, will attend to discuss neighborhood issues.

Donations to schools


Staff from Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center will deliver school supplies and winter outerwear to Williamson Elementary School, 58 Williamson Ave., and Harding Elementary School, 1903 Cordova Ave., today at 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively.

Mahoning officials change meeting site


The Mahoning County commissioners will meet at their usual time of 10 a.m. Thursday , but their meeting place has changed from the county courthouse basement to the county Children Services building, 222 W. Federal St. After their board meeting, the commissioners will conduct an 11 a.m. staff meeting that day in the Children Services building, followed by budget hearings beginning at 1 p.m. in their offices at 21 W. Boardman St., second floor.
