Election Day prayer
St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Election Day, for prayer and reflection.
Second Baptist Church, 1510 Main Ave. SW, will celebrate its 100th anniversary this month.
“A House of Hope” event will be a black tie gala at 7 p.m. Friday at Tiffany’s Banquet Center in Brookfield, featuring the Michael Austin Project. Church members past and present, friends of Second Baptist and community leaders are invited. Tickets are $50 per person.
A worship concert will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 with Gospel singer VaShawn Mitchell in the sanctuary. Tickets are $25 and $40 and there is VIP reserved seating and a gift from the singer. Tickets can be purchased from the church or at www.2deepevents.com.
On Nov. 13, there will be a homecoming worship service at 10:15 a.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Keith Troy, senior pastor of New Salem Baptist Church in Columbus, a former member.
Also attending will be the Rev. Leon Troy, the speaker’s father, and Dr. Frank Hearns, most recent and longest-serving minister of Second Baptist. Host pastor is the Rev. Todd A. Johnson.
Holy Shroud relic
The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, will host Donald Nohs in “Encountering Jesus Through His Holy Shroud” at 7 p.m. Friday.
A life-size replica of the shroud will be displayed. A documentary on DVD will be available. A free-will offering will be taken.
Now Creations service
Now Creations will conduct a service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Ursuline Center auditorium, 4280 Shields Road.
There will be music, message and meditation.
Now Creations regularly schedules a first Sunday of the month service.
Lifecare Ministry Center, Lucille Orr Ministries, 5357 S. Raccoon Road, will host guest speaker Matt Sorger of New York in “Awaken Ohio” presentations planned for 7 p.m. Friday and Nov. 12 and 13 and at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13. Sorger is a revivalist and healing evangelist who has been in ministry more than 23 years.

Prayer at flags
Rebecca Myers of God and Me is promoting prayer at noon Monday around flagpoles in Valley communities flying American flags. She urges voters to take time to pray before casting their votes and offer a general prayer for the country.
Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 1232 Hill St., will celebrate the seventh anniversary of its pastor, Samuel G. Holmes Jr., during a program at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
Pastor James Holmes of St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church will preach.
Leticia Ott is chairwoman for the anniversary committee.
Holy Family icon
St. Patrick Church, 167 Main St., and its Knights of Columbus chapter will host the Holy Family Icon and prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in conjunction with the youth ministry and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine programs at St. Patrick and St. Paul Church in Salem.
The Holy Family Prayer Program is the 17th Marian Prayer Program sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, beginning with the first program honoring Mary under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Knights of Columbus Holy Family Prayer Program began Aug. 4 at the 133rd Supreme Convention in Philadelphia. This program features an image of the Holy Family.
St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a day of service and celebration Mass at 4 p.m. today.
Parishioners signed up for service projects in Mahoning County, including preparing Thanksgiving dinner for residents at Omni Manor, building and restoring a home for Habitat for Humanity, completing projects for Beatitude House, helping to winterize Boardman Park and distributing Caf Augustine doughnuts to neighbors and Boardman emergency personnel.
