Driver pleads guilty to amended charge

AUSTINTOWN

A former Florida truck driver pleaded guilty to an amended charge of vehicular manslaughter after a Nov. 7, 2015, accident resulting in the death of Donald Stephenson III.

Israel Chamizo, 52, of Miami Springs, received a $750 fine plus court costs, 90 days in jail suspended, 12 months of nonreporting probation and a 365-day driver’s license suspension.

Chamizo’s aggravated vehicular assault charge was dismissed in Mahoning County Area Court on Monday afternoon.

Reports said Chamizo side-swiped Stephenson’s vehicle in a tractor-trailer when Chamizo made an improper lane change on Interstate 80 near state Route 46.

Trump signs stolen

Donald Trump signs were stolen from two Melrose Avenue yards, according to a police report filed Wednesday.

One resident reported to police her sign in support of the Republican presidential nominee went missing Wednesday afternoon, and that this had happened to her before.

A neighbor reported her Trump yard sign also had been stolen about the same time.
