Theater to present ‘Shirley Valentine’

Staff report

Selah Dessert Theatre will present the humorous “Shirley Valentine,” a one-woman show starring Candace DiLullo, for five performances.

The shows will take place at 8 p.m. in the cabaret theater on the second floor of Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St., on Nov. 10, 11, 12, 18 and 19. Mary Ruth Lynn is the director.

“Shirley Valentine,” written by Willy Russell, centers on a 42-year-old middle-class British housewife who has lost herself in her roles of wife, mother, cook and housekeeper.

As she prepares her husband’s dinner, she talks to her companion, the wall, and to the audience about her past, her family memories, her fears, her regrets and her longing for just feeling joy again. After her husband shows his disapproval about dinner, Shirley decides to travel to Greece where she has a romantic adventure and rediscovers the person she used to be.

The beautifully written play will bring laughter, tears and self-reflection to both women and men.

It also marks DiLullo’s return to the local stage after a three-year absence.

Tickets are $17.50, which includes dessert at intermission. Go to or call 800-838-3006. Seating is limited, and reservations are required.

A dinner package is available for Nov. 10 only. It includes a four-course dinner, plus the show and dessert, for $35 per ticket. For reservations, call 330-755-2759.
