Model train displays open to public
Model trains of all shapes and sizes can be seen at the Youngstown Model Railroad Association’s fall open house, which will take place over six days.
The open house features two room-size railroad displays. It will take place Saturday and Sunday, and also Nov. 12 and 13 and Dec. 3 and 4. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. all days.
The YMRA is located at the corner of Raccoon Road and Four Mile Run Road.
Admission is $4 per person (free for children 11 and under with an adult).
The YMRA is one of the few clubs in the country that has two complete displays, O scale and the smaller HO. Each extensive layout features more than 100 scale miles of track.
The HO layout is currently undergoing renovation. The creation of a complete steel mill complex and its track work are in the process of being built. The new passenger station that depicts the original home of the YMRA clubhouse, the New York Central station that was in downtown Youngstown, is complete, and the entire city area lighting has been redone in LEDs.
The O scale layout offers a special fascination for some as it brings back memories of the trains that once were common under Christmas trees.
