City firefighters battle blazes at 2 South Side homes

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said firefighters Monday were called to two blazes at vacant homes on the South Side within 15 minutes of each other..

Crews were first called about 8:15 p.m. to a fire at a 421 E. Dewey Ave. home after reports of flames on the side of the home. Reports said a firefighter injured his back and shoulder and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.

Damage is listed at $10,000.

About 8:30 p.m., crews were called to a home at 244 E. Pasadena Ave. Reports said crews had to come from the North Side to help out because of the fire on East Dewey Avenue. The entire upper part of the house was engulfed in flames and crews had to protect homes next to it, reports said.

No one was damaged in that fire.

Damage is listed at $12,000, a complete loss, according to reports.
