Food service earns award

AUSTINTOWN

The Austintown Schools Food Service Department received the bronze-level Healthier U.S. School Challenge award from Smarter Lunchroom. Schools that receive the award have created healthier school environments through promotion of nutrition and physical activity, while following the Smart Snacks and Schools Nutrition Standards.

The award includes $500 for the department. The department recently received the Buckeye Healthy School Team Nutrition grant.

Fifth-graders complete D.A.R.E. program

NORTH LIMA

South Range Middle School fifth-graders will celebrate the completion of their D.A.R.E. program May 24. The students have been participating in various activities and lessons learning about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and how they can say no to peer pressure with the help of Beaver Township Cpl. Brian Hartman, the school resource officer. An assembly is planned at 12:30 p.m. in the K-12 auditorium. Other township police officers and a police dog are expected to attend to demonstrate drug searches for students.

St. Pat’s announces kindergarten screening

HUBBARD

St. Patrick School, a Lumen Christi School, will do kindergarten screening for the 2016-17 school year from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 by appointment only. Students must be registered before screening.

To register a student for kindergarten, you will need to bring an updated copy of the child’s immunization records, child’s Social Security card, copy of legal custody papers (if applicable) and a copy of the Baptismal record (if applicable).
