CHS swimmers head to state competition

Eight Canfield High School swimmers qualified for the Division II Boys Swimming State Competition at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Feb. 25 and 26. The preliminaries were set for Feb. 25, with the finals to take place on Feb. 26.

In a Canfield tradition, the swimmers were honored and wished good luck by their classmates, faculty, staff and family members at a walk-through at the high school, while also joined by the Canfield Cardinal on Feb. 25.

State Team swimmers included senior Jared Rothbauer, who led off in the 400 freestyle relay; sophomore Cullen Brady, who led off in both the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay; freshman Bobby Kutsch, who was the third leg in the 400 freestyle relay; senior Alec Gaetano, who swam two events, including the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay; senior Ben Brucoli, who swam the 200 medley relay, 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay; senior Matthew Bogen, who swam the 200 medley relay, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and the 100-yard breaststroke; junior Lake Bennett, who was the second swimmer in the 400 freestyle relay, and sophomore Kamran Sarac, who anchored the 400 freestyle relay.

The Canfield High School boys swim team’s head coach is Brian Stahl, with Ryan O’Malley serving as assistant coach.
