Temptations to play Powers Auditorium


The Temptations will come to Powers Auditorium on Oct. 7.

The quintet — which includes original member Otis Williams — scored many hits since hitting it big in the 1960s, including “My Girl.” The Motown-era act is known for its precise choreography as much as its R&B vocals.

Landau Murphy Jr. in benefit concert


Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., winner of the 2011 “America’s Got Talent” competition, will return to Stambaugh Auditorium for a Nov. 17 concert.

Murphy played at the venue last year. Once again, the concert will benefit he Diversity Leadership Minority Scholarship Fund at Youngstown State University.

For the November concert, which will start at 8 p.m., Murphy will be joined by Motown icons Glenn Leonard, former lead vocalist for the Temptations; Joe Coleman, lead singer for the Platters; and Joe Blunt, lead singer for the Drifters.

Monster truck tour returns to Covelli


The Toughest Monster Truck tour will return to Covelli Centre for two shows: 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 and 4. Tickets for the Feb. 3 show are $28, $24 and $10 (children); and for the Feb. 4 show, $33, $28 and $10 (children), and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the Covelli box office, online at, and by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Pre-show pit passes are an additional $5.

Taneri art exhibit


“Not the Last Dance,” an exhibition of abstract-themed works by local artist Gary Taneri, opens Saturday with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. at DNA Studios Gallery, 137 S. Park Ave., and will run through Aug. 16.
