Phantoms fans will go for party hat record on New Year's Eve

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Phantoms will ask fans to help break the world record of the most people wearing party hats in the same location at Saturday’s New Year’s Eve game at 2:30 p.m.

The first 1,000 fans through the door at Covelli Centre will receive a party hat courtesy of the hockey team and will be able to decorate the hat before the game begins. During the first period of the game, the host will announce when it’s time to wear the hats, and all fans must keep hats on for five minutes for the record attempt to be approved. To secure the record, more than 250 fans must participate.

“We knew this season we wanted to attempt a record,” said Katie Seminara-DeToro, director of game day operations. “When we came across the party hat record, we thought it would be the perfect fit for our game on New Year’s Eve. We hope it will be a fun way for fans to start celebrating the New Year, and an opportunity to make a unique memory with family and friends.”

Tickets range from $11.25 to $23.25. To purchase in advance, go to or call 330-747-7825.
