Winter Social at William Holmes McGuffey Elementary

Staff report

Youngstown City School District teachers and administrators will host the first winter social for parents at 5 p.m. Friday at William Holmes McGuffey Elementary School, 310 S. Schenley Ave.

“It’s just a great way to get the community, family and teachers all together to show them we are all in this together,” said McGuffey teacher Pauline Cunningham. “There is no gap between us, and we need to celebrate our parents and enjoy ourselves.”

For $5 per couple, attendees will be served dinner while viewing a live jazz band.

Baby sitters – made up of staff and Youngstown City School District Key Club members – will be on staff for an additional $1 for parents who wish to bring their children.

“I just really hope the community grabs onto this,” Cunningham said. “I’m looking forward to spending time with parents and community members.”

Terry Wilkie, parent-teacher organization president and event organizer, said the event enables parents and school personnel to build relationships.
