FCS QUARTERFINALS: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Hunter Wells, Jr. QB — Wells became the starting quarterback Oct. 29 after injuries to Ricky Davis and Trent Hosick. In seven games, he’s passed for 1,026 yards and four touchdowns with three picks. Last week against Jacksonville State, he passed for 290 yards and a touchdown.
Martin Ruiz, Sr. RB — Ruiz is the Penguins’ leader in rushing yards and touchdowns with 1,149 yards and 12 touchdowns. He rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason.
Armand Dellovade, So. LB — Dellovade leads YSU in total tackles with 86, including 9.5 for a loss. He has 12 tackles in the playoffs.
Joseph Newman, Fr. QB — Newman is the team’s fifth-string quarterback. Wofford lost its first four quarterbacks to two torn ACLs, an injured ankle and to recovery from donating bone marrow. He rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown while completing one pass for no yards. Should he get hurt, running back Nick Colvin goes under center.
Datavious Wilson, Fr. LB — Wilson piled up a career-high 14 tackles against The Citadel. He leads the team in tackles with 96.
Lorenzo Long, Sr. RB — Long has 1,382 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns this year. He has 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs.
