‘Drag Queen’ at Rust Belt

‘Drag Queen’ at Rust Belt

Rust Belt Theater Company’s annual production of its original musical “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” will return for five performances. Curtain times are at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10; with an additional midnight show Dec. 10. All shows are at Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., near downtown Youngstown. Tickets are $15 ($10 for seniors and students); call 330-507-2358 for reservations. “Drag Queen” is an off-the-wall retelling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” It looks in on Starrlet O’Hara, a tyrant drag queen who is visited by three ghostly divas on Christmas Eve. Written and composed by Robert Dennick Joki (pictured at left in title role) and Josh Taylor, the show is updated each year to lampoon politics, current events and pop culture. Because “Drag Queen” is the centerpiece of Rust Belt’s season, the theater company will unveil its 2017 season on opening night. Each performance will include a complimentary wine and cheese reception, a silent auction and Starrlet’s Workshop, featuring custom-made jewelry and souvenir shop.
