The fourth annual Adopt A Palooza, a community event intended to bring awareness to animal rescues in the Mahoning Valley, is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at High Octane Coffee Co., 410 W. Main St.

Adopt A Palooza, in partnership with High Octane Coffee Co., Trailside Bicycle Co. and Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC., is a free community event and also is aimed at finding homes for shelter pets.

This year, the event will feature nine animal rescues with pets on sites, as well as pet-related vendors. The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department will conduct demonstrations with its police dogs. Food trucks also will be on site.

Extradition waived

WARREN

William Casey Jr., 55, of Girard, accused of committing rape and other sex crimes against a child in Mercer County, has waived extradition back to Pennsylvania to face the charges.

He agreed to return to Pennsylvania while making an appearance Wednesday before Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Casey was arrested Saturday afternoon at a home on Ward Avenue in Girard after being charged by the Pymatuning Township Police Department. Police said the crimes occurred in December 2015.

Fundraiser planned

Five Below stores in Niles, 2102 Niles-Cortland Road, and Boardman, 411 Boardman-Poland Road, are having a fundraising event Friday through Sunday to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Ten percent of sales during those days are donated to the hospital when the event flier is presented at the register.

Fundraising events are conducted at local businesses and restaurants throughout the summer to benefit the upcoming Miracles and Promises Radiothon set for Sept. 21-23 on the Akron Children’s Beeghly Campus in Boardman.

Center closed

YOUNGSTOWN

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center, 11 W. Federal St., downtown Ohio will be closed to the general public Friday for the center’s annual fundraiser “The Science of Brewing.” The center will reopen at 10 a.m. Saturday.
