Man killed in gunfire exchange is city's sixth homicide victim of 2016
YOUNGSTOWN — Police say a man killed in an exchange of gunfire at about 12:45 a.m. today is the city's sixth homicide of 2016.
Michael Pete, 30, was found wounded outside a house at 62 E. Evergreen Ave. and later died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the Detective Bureau said it appears Pete was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
Another man is at the hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken there by private vehicle, Bobovnyik said.
Bobovnyik said that man is suspected of exchanging gunfire with Pete.
Bobovnyik said detectives will confer with prosecutors today to see if charges will be filed.
The city saw 23 homicides in 2015. At this point last year, there had been two.
