Cruze sales take a hit in August
LORDSTOWN — The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze sales took a hit in August.
Competition from larger vehicles appeared to lead to the 37 percent year-over-year drop in sales of the compact car.
Last August, which included an extra sales day and the Labor Day sales weekend, the Cruze came in with more than 23,000 sales. This August, Cruze sales came in at 14,661, GM said in its sales release today.
Overall, GM saw a slight decrease in sales of 0.7 percent. A total of 270,480 vehicles were delivered.
The automaker said retail deliveries climbed 6 percent compared with a year ago while fleet sales were down 24 percent.
Both pickups and crossovers saw double-digit gains in August.
The next-generation Cruze will be on dealer lots in 2016.
