Tucson artist brightens Warren neighborhood

Staff report

Amy Novelli has worked since Oct. 21 on a 56-by-22-foot mural in a very visible location at the corner of North Park Avenue and Scott Street Northeast in Warren.

The mural will depict children playing, houses that can be found in the neighborhood and streaks of orange similar to the sunsets Novelli loves back home in Tucson, Ariz.

“I’ve already had some neighbors come by and say, ‘Thank you for the colors. We need hope. Thank you for the hope,’” Novelli said Monday as she prepared to start another day on the project.

Novelli, who grew up in Warren and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1982, said she wants the project to bring color to a skyline that can turn gray this time of year.

Novelli sells fine art to galleries in several states and also has created murals in Berlin, New Orleans, Tucson and Pittsburgh.

She has supervised projects in Tucson called “ArtWORKS!” in which high school students are guided through the process of designing, fabricating and painting a mural or sculpture for a neighborhood in the Tucson area.
