Bariatric surgery information session


Sharon Regional Health System if offering a free bariatric surgery informational session at 6 p.m. March 25 at the Hermitage Diagnostic and Imaging Center, 2435 Garden Way.

The sessions include information on obesity and its impact on overall health, a review of surgical weight-loss options including benefits and risks, a look at body/mass index, along with other information to assist participants in making an informed decision about surgical weight- loss treatments.

The bariatric surgery program at Sharon Regional is under the direction of bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon Dr. Sheetal Nijhawan and includes a multidisciplinary approach to weight-loss surgery. For information or to register, call 724-981-4561.

Label-deciphering presentation


Learn to read and decipher food labels and how information on labels relates to health during a “Healthy Eating for You: Label Reading” presentation at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Warren Room at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, 667 Eastland Ave.

Bridget Lackey, a registered dietitian and community educator, will lead an informational discussion and answer questions.

‘Health at Home’ at St. Elizabeth


Mercy Health Youngstown is offering a free one-hour workshop, “Health at Home,” from 11 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Youngstown Room at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Ave.

The workshop includes a reference guide that provides information about more than 200 common health problems as well as tips on caring for yourself and your family, preventing illness and injury, and advice on when to seek medical attention.

Diabetes education


Mercy Health Youngstown is offering a three-day diabetes education course from 9 to 11:30 a.m. today through Thursday in the diabetes classroom at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Free parking is available in the deck on Parkview Avenue.

Health care professionals who teach the course, which is certified by the American Diabetes Association, focus on the medical aspects of the disease such as medications, glucose monitoring, exercise and complications during the first session.

The second and third sessions emphasize learning to plan meals, count carbohydrates, interpret food labels and make positive food choices.

The classes will be repeated March 17-19 at Hospice House. Registration is required. Call 330-480-2676.

‘Blood Type Diet Meal Prep’


A free seminar, “Blood Type Diet Meal Prep,” is offered at 6:30 p.m. Thursday by Dr. Ted Suzelis at the Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center in Boardman (SouthBridge West Complex at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite D-3.

He will discuss how to incorporate the blood-type diet into life and meal planning, share recipes, and teach how to substitute ingredients in your current recipes to make them blood-type friendly.
