Intense snow, hazardous sleet forecast for Valley tonight, Monday

Staff report

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 8 p.m. today to 4 p.m. Monday for Mahoning and Trumbull counties that will include a dangerous mix of ice and snow.

Ice accumulations are expected to total about one-tenth of an inch tonight. The threat for freezing rain and sleet will end Monday morning.

Periods of intense snow with the heaviest precipitation are expected Monday morning. About 3 to 5 inches of accumulation are expected late this evening and into Monday.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to the snow, sleet and ice-covered roads, the NWS warns.
