The Howland Health and Wellness Committee will kick off its Healthy Lifestyle seminar series at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Shepherd of the Valley – Howland, 4100 North River Road.
The seminar series intends to educate the community on ways to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Local physicians and health care professionals will lead the seminar, providing information on various healthy living tips.
The first seminar, led by Dr. Robert Naples Jr., will address common health conditions and how to test and treat them. He will talk about the importance of screenings and at what age to complete them. Screenings for body mass index (BMI), height and weight, blood pressure, heart rate and pulse oximetry and glucose for those who qualify will be offered free of charge.

The Niles City Health Department, 34 W. State St., is offering an immunization clinic from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Jan. 21. No appointment is necessary. No one will be refused service because of inability to pay.
Children’s immunization records are required, and they should be feeling well with no illness, fever or rash. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Abdu gets award
The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, Mercy Health Youngstown, has received the Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey Associates Inc. for 2014 for the second-consecutive year. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes facilities that consistently perform in the top 5 percent for patient satisfaction among Press Ganey clients.
“We have maintained 99 percent patient satisfaction since we began tracking this measure in April of 2012,” said Juli Dulay, manager of the Joanie Abdu Center.
The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center provides comprehensive diagnostic breast services using the most advanced technologies available, Dulay said.
Dr. Maalouf recognized

Majed Maalouf, M.D., a plastic and general surgeon with Jameson Health System Care Specialists, 26 Nesbitt Road, Neshannock Township, was among 1,640 initiates from around the world recently inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Maalouf is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University, Beirut, Lebanon, and served residencies at Summa Health System, Akron, and West Penn and Allegheny General hospitals in Pittsburgh.
Among his specializations are plastic/cosmetic reconstructive surgery; breast surgery, reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery and head and neck cancers.
