Parade, tree lighting on Central Square

The city’s annual holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday on Central Square, downtown.

Caroling, food and other vendors, will be on hand on the square and inside the 20 Federal Place building.

The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the tree lighting and Santa’s arrival will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sister Jerome of Youngstown, who is approaching her 100th birthday, will be honored as grand marshal of the parade and tree lighting.

Afterward, there will be photos with Santa in 20 Federal Place and other activities, including:

Dueling Pianos at Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts on North Phelps Street.

Ugly Sweater Night at the Youngstown Phantoms hockey game at 7:30 p.m. at Covelli Centre.

Free admission at OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology from 4 to 8 p.m.

Downtown storefronts will be decorated for the event.
