brier hill italian fest What’s planned

The 24th annual Brier Hill Italian Fest takes place Thursday through Aug. 23 on Calvin and Victoria streets in Youngstown. Proceeds will benefit the ITAM Memorial Post 12. The fest will feature games, food, table vendors and live Italian music. Hours are from 4 to midnight Thursday and Friday and noon to midnight Saturday and Aug. 23.

Thursday: Jim Frank Combo plays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; John Gabriele, 7 to 8:30; and Avanti Band, 9 to 11.

Friday: Butch Nichols Band, 5:30 to 7 p.m.; opening ceremony at 7 p.m.; Frank Gallo Band, 7:30 to 9 p.m.; and Rex Taneri Combo, 9:30 to 11 p.m. Morra will be on the deck at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Rex Taneri Combo, 3 to 4:30 p.m.; Jim Frank Combo, 5 to 6:30 p.m.; Butch Nichols Band, 7 to 8:30 p.m.; and Rocco Monaco Band, 9 to 11 p.m. A hot pepper contest will be on the deck. Sign-in entries at 5:30 p.m. with winners announced from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Aug. 23: Lowellville Marching Band at 10 a.m.; Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church with Lowellville Marching Band; John Gabriele, 1:30 to 3 p.m.; Jim Frank Combo, 3:30 to 5 p.m.; Rocco Monaco Band, 5:30 to 7 p.m.; Frank Gallo Band, 7:30 to 9 p.m.; and Dom Tocco and the Brotherhood. A wine tasting contest will be featured with registration at 3 p.m. and contest from 4 to 5 p.m. with announcement of winners to follow.
