Center to host annual 5K, relay

CANFIELD

Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center will host the third annual Valley 5K and 10-Mile Relay for the Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley on Saturday at Mill Creek Metroparks Bikeway, 6700 Kirk Road.

The cost for the 5K is $20 in advance or $25 on race day and the cost for the 10-mile relay is $100 in advance or $125 on race day.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., the Kids Free Fun Run will begin at 8:45 a.m., the 5K will begin at 9 a.m., and the 10 mile relay will begin at 10 a.m.

Free T-shirts and goodie bags will be given to all registered participants. Live entertainment will include Blue Spectrum. Additional details can be found at the Media Center at ValleyAutism5K.com/media_center.

Heroin charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police serving search warrants Tuesday afternoon investigating drug activity arrested two people on possession of heroin charges.

About 5:05 p.m., Tequan Scott, 20, was arrested at a Maywood Avenue home. Reports said police found three bags of heroin in the home as well as a loaded .38-caliber revolver.

Another man in the home had $486 cash in his pockets, reports said.

About an hour later, Shatice Jackson, 22, was arrested in a home on West Heights. Police found a bag of heroin, a digital scale and a marijuana grinder at the home.

Two arrested after beating up woman

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said two women were arrested about 4:35 p.m. after beating up another woman on the South Side.

The woman told police she got off a bus in the 3700 block of Elbertus Avenue when she was jumped by Ava Teague, 46, and Cecilia Mclendon, 59, and knocked to the ground.

Reports said the victim told police she is pregnant and was trying to protect her stomach. Reports said the victim had blood coming from her nose and mouth, and she was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Teague and Mclendon were found at a home on East Midlothian Boulevard and arrested on assault charges. Both women were taken to the Mahoning County jail. The third woman could not be found, reports said.

Stolen from Arby’s

AUSTINTOWN

Copper and coil were stolen from the roof of an Arby’s restaurant sometime Tuesday morning.

A manager of the restaurant, 4440 Mahoning Ave., called authorities and said about 100 feet of copper pipe, one air-conditioning condenser coil and one ice machine condenser coil from the roof of the business had been removed. It happened sometime between 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday. A lock on the ladder that goes to the roof was intact, and the store manager believed the thief or thieves brought a ladder.

Streets to close

YOUNGSTOWN

Several streets will be closed between 6 a.m. and noon Saturday for the African American Male Wellness 5K Walk/Run.

They are: Walnut Street between Front and Federal streets, Federal Street between Walnut Street and Andrews Avenue, Andrews Avenue between Federal Street and McGuffey Road, McGuffey Road between Andrews Avenue and Willow Street, and Willow/Valley streets between McGuffey Road and Andrews Avenue.

Some nearby streets may also be affected for a brief time, according to the city’s public works department.
