OSHP urges caution after fourth fatal accident in one week

Staff report

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging motorists to make good driving decisions after the fourth fatal accident in Mahoning County in the last week.

The Canfield patrol post is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on U.S. Route 62 on Wednesday afternoon. The crash killed Scott Wilson, 56, of Beloit.

Wilson, who was riding a motorcycle, was hit from behind by a car traveling westbound on Route 62 after Wilson attempted to turn into a driveway, according to a release from the highway patrol.

An investigator with the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office pronounced Wilson dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The accident marks the 13th fatal accident in Mahoning County so far this year, according to OSHP statistics.

A South Carolina man died July 30 in a crash on Interstate 76 near Lake Milton. Then, one woman died last Friday in a multivehicle accident on the Ohio Turnpike in Austintown.

A 21-year-old Boardman woman died Monday in a single-car accident on Route 62 in Canfield.
