America Makes brings in hundreds for event

Staff report

Youngstown saw many guests this week who were here from across the country to discuss America Makes’ projects at DeYor Performing Arts Center.

The members-only discussion, called the America Makes Program Management Review, takes place twice a year.

It is a review of the America Makes program to the government stakeholders and a discussion of what is being done and what will be done in the future at America Makes, said Scott Deutsch, America Makes manager of communications and special programs.

America Makes, the first additive-manufacturing hub in the U.S., has more than 40 projects in its portfolio.

A total of 28 projects were discussed.

Attending the event were guests from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, some smaller enterprises and universities throughout the country, such as The University of Notre Dame.

The event, which began Tuesday and ended Thursday, brought in about 200 people each day.

“It’s a good impact on the economy locally,” Deutsch said.
