Canfield High School students were introduced to their new mascot, Big Red, at their fall sports pep rally Oct. 24. Senior members of each fall sports team were also recognized at the rally.
For more than half of a century, the mascot at Canfield High School has been named Big Red. The notoriety of the namesake has been more pronounced in some decades than others. The ultimate goal is to carry forth the cardinal tradition while building community pride and school spirit.
“It is our hope that this will only further enhance the heightened atmosphere of school spirit that is ever present at Canfield High School,” said Assistant Principal David Mullane.
Senior members of the girls tennis team, girls golf team, boys golf team, girls cross country team, boys cross country team, girls soccer team, boys soccer team, girls volleyball team, varsity football team and cheerleading squad were honored at the pep rally.
The CHS band pumped the students up with their music throughout the pep rally and played the school’s alma mater as students sang along. The CHS cheerleaders led the students in several high-energy cheers.
The new mascot was purchased through support by the Canfield High School Gridiron Club.
