Officer gets 1 year in nude-photos case
A former Cincinnati police officer who pleaded guilty to receiving nude photos from a minor was sentenced to one year in prison.
Forty-five-year-old Darrell Beavers was sentenced Thursday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty in June to felony charges of attempting to tamper with evidence and use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance.
Beavers was arrested in October 2013 on allegations of receiving nude photographs of a 17-year-old girl who was participating in the department’s program for teens interested in becoming police officers.
He also was accused of using an apartment for free after saying it would be used as a police substation and destroying a cellphone after learning he was being investigated.
Beavers also must register as a sex offender and report his address for the next 15 years. He faced a maximum of 30 months in prison, but the law changed after he pleaded guilty, resulting in a maximum sentence of one year.
A message left for his attorney wasn’t immediately returned.
In court Thursday, Beavers said he was ashamed of his actions, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
“I accept responsibility for my actions,” he said. “My family has been the real victim in this along with the community and the police department. ... I am completely upset and ashamed at my actions.”
