Marie LaCava, President of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Senior Citizens Organization, has made a commitment to intergenerational activities.

St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary (SJIHM) kindergarten through second grade students and SJIHM Ringers for Christ, one of two handbell choirs at the school, were invited to perform songs for and talk to IHM seniors this past December. Immaculate Heart of Mary’s Senior Citizen Organization took time during their March luncheon to prepare treats for SJIHM students.

Referring to the 100 pounds of candy they had bagged, Adeline Sebbio said, “I hope we have enough for all the kids to enjoy.”

The bags were filled and SJIHM students were full of smiles when the Easter Bunny handed out the candy on Holy Thursday.

Both the SJIHM students and IHM seniors are looking forward to more intergenerational activities, some of which may include reading activities, bingo partners, pen pals, arts and crafts projects and oral history. The seniors may even have the chance to create interactive stories, games and animations on the computer with SJIHM students.
