URGENT: Mooney will not move; too soon to talk merger

Published: Tue, May 6, 2014 @ 11:09 a.m.

Bishop George V. Murry says the Mooney campaign failed to raise enough to move forward with plans for a new building.

Murry said the campaign failed to raise the interim $23 million goal.

The total for the project is $34 million, and $14 million was raised toward the goal.

The Rev. Gerald DeLucia, president of Cardinal Mooney High School, says there haven't been safety issues at the school.

"i can't say enough about Youngstown's concern, care and watchfulness for Cardinal Mooney," he said.

The bishop says it's premature to talk about merging Mooney and Ursuline high schools.

Nick Wolsonovich, superintendent of the Diocese of Youngstown Schools, says everyone is invited to participate in the process moving forward in deciding what's next for Cardinal Mooney.

Great news. Now get to work cleaning up the neighborhoods around Mooney and Ursuline Mayor McNally!

I read on another site that the bishop said they will ask the donors if they want their money back. Maybe that was the problem. It should have been a restricted donation that would automatically be returned if they didn't raise enough. People were probably afraid to give if they weren't sure what would happen if they did not reach their goal.
