AUSTINTOWN

Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course announced seven management hires Tuesday.

Heidi Farulia, a Pittsburgh native, has been hired as the director of finance and served in a similar position at Hollywood Casino Toledo. Penn National Gaming also operates the Toledo casino and Mike Galle, general manager for the Austintown racino, also came over from Toledo.

Scott Frost is the director of marketing, leaving Radio One in Detroit and New York City where he had been working for the past 18 years. He has served as a marketing director at Station Casino St. Charles, St. Charles, Mo., and also at MotorCity Casino, Detroit, Mich. Queeta Hewitt has been hired as the director of human resources. She has worked in the gaming industry for 12 years, working at two Penn National locations before Mahoning Valley. Those are Hollywood Casino Tunica, in Tunica, Miss., and Argosy Casino, Sioux City, Iowa.

The director of video lottery terminals is Anthony Quarantillo and is also from Penn National’s Toledo casino. He has previously worked as a slot supervisor at Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel, Niagara Falls, New York, for 10 years before moving to Toledo and working in a similar role.

Another hire from Toledo is Barry Rhodes, director of food and beverage, who had served as executive chef at Hollywood Casino Toledo. The native of England has previously worked at Bally’s Casino in Tunica, Miss., and Four Winds Casino, New Buffalo, Mich.

The information technology manager is Patrice Freeman, who has previously worked for two Penn National casinos. She began at Hollywood Casino Joliet, Joliet, Ill., and shifted to their Toledo location last year in the same role she will serve in Austintown.

The final hire is Herman Stein as facilities manager, who has previously worked for Morgan’s Foods. For the last seven years at Morgan’s Foods, a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchisee based in Cleveland, he handled 30 restaurant remodels and new construction for the company.

So, eight position, 0 filled by a local. Nice. Seems to be a pattern for business' coming to our area. I am not a gambler, but will val to spend one hour for each management position given to a local in the racino. I also val to spend money for that hour. I'm willing to bet I spend vary little time at the Racino.

UNCOMMONSENSE, our area has plenty of qualified restaurant managers, marketers, information technology people, finance people and human resources people. Go take your meds and have another drink.
