Condi Rice declines Rutgers commencement address after war protest

Published: Sat, May 3, 2014 @ 7:46 p.m.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP)

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has backed out of delivering the commencement address at Rutgers University following protests by some faculty and students over her role in the Iraq War.

Rice said in a statement Saturday that she informed Rutgers President Robert Barchi that she was declining the invitation to speak at the graduation.

It is unfortunate that the anti-intellectual intolerant thugs at Rutgers have thrown there little temper tantrums and succeeded in getting their way to silence the speech of people with whom they disagree.

Condi Rice is obviously the bigger person.

Typical of modern academia. Cowardice and cringing subservience to all forms of political correctness. Adolf, Vladimir, Joseph, and Fidel would be highly proud of these people.

Condi Rice is a giant among pygmies.

Why did we go to Iraq? Oh, I almost forgot, "Weapons of Mass Destruction?" Or was it oil and Haliburton? How dare those kids not drink the Kool-Aid. Thousands of U.S. lives lost and billions of tax dollars thrown down the drain. Don't blame George and Rumsfeld, blame the students at Rutgers.

Condi Rice doesn't have the courage of her own convictions. Not surprising when you,re nothing more than a prop for the Bush administration.

What the little blurb published here does NOT say (gee....I wonder why???) is that Condi Rice is declining the invitation so that the rabid protesters, screaming to silence her speech, do not become a distraction detracting from the commencement ceremony that should focus on the graduates.

Again, Condi Rice is obviously the bigger person.

I wonder if the people belittling her are doing so because she is African-American(??).

Excuse me. I meant to say that she WAS nothing more than a prop. She has absolutely nothing of any value or interest to say. As far as university faculty and students protestng her because she's black- are you serious??

@HSG

You're probably right. Condi Rice wouldn't have anything to say that would interest the average student or professor at Rutgers. Obviously, Snooki is more their speed.

I wonder what kind of reaction I would get if I suggested Eric Holder was a "prop"??
