New Castle man faces drug charges after traffic stop

Published: Mon, March 31, 2014 @ 11:23 a.m.

CAMPBELL — A 19-year-old New Castle, Pa., man faces a host of charges – possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, prescription label required, obstructing official business and resisting arrest – following a traffic stop late Friday.

Toryan Lee Respress, of North Round Street, is set to answer to those charges at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Police stopped Respress at 11:45 p.m. Friday on McCartney Road after noticing that his car's windows were darkly tinted, preventing officers from seeing inside.

According to the police report, Respress' eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and his movements were slow. Police immediately saw a marijuana grinder in plain view.

Respress repeatedly ignored officers' requests to keep his hands on the steering wheel, and continued to reach into his pocket. Police incapacitated him with a stun gun, and he was arrested.

A search of the car revealed a marijuana cigarette and half of an unknown blue pill in a clear plastic baggie, along with $522 in cash.
