“Community Connection” (Sunday at 6:30 a.m. on 21 WFMJ-TV, and 11 a.m. on WBCB): The American Red Cross is seeking nominations for its Heroes of the Valley Award program. Karen Conklin will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss the process.

Next, local journalist Sean Barron and Dr. Julie Knapp of the Center for Autism, will discuss Social Connections, a group for teens and young adults on the autism spectrum.

Finally, Dr. Gus Biscardi and Jere Beulah of the Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation will discuss the growing number of kidney disease cases in the Valley.

“Increase the Peace” (6:30 p.m. today and 6:30 a.m. Sunday on MyYTV): Kelly McDowell wil join host Andrea Mahone to discuss the upcoming talent search to take place in Boardman. Billy Beck from Ohio Players and Rick Ward will be the judges.

“A Conversation with Dee” (8:30 a.m. Sunday on WKBN TV): Host Dee Crawford’s guests will be Eugenia Atkinson and Nikki Davis of the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta. The sorority provides scholarship assistance to students and will have a prayer breakfast as a fundraiser to help finance its efforts.

ACM Awards will salute Haggard


Miranda Lambert and George Strait will team up to perform a tribute medley of Merle Haggard’s hits during the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 6, and Garth Brooks will present the singer-songwriter with the academy’s Crystal Milestone Award.

The academy also announced Friday that The Band Perry will open the show with a performance, Hunter Hayes will perform for a child hunger charity campaign, and Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line will team with Nitro Circus Action Stars, an action sports troupe.

Bryan and Blake Shelton co-host the CBS show.
