Race to raise money for well in Uganda

As part of a service project sponsored by the YSU Scholars Program, several YSU students will host a 5K race and 2-mile walk at Austintown Township Park on April 26 to raise money for a water tank in Uganda.

The group is working together with the Ugandan Water Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to provide access to resources in Africa. In order to build a water tank for a Ugandan community, the students must raise $3500 by the end of the event.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on race day, with the 5K race beginning at 10 a.m. and the 2-mile walk starting at 10:45 a.m. Prizes will be given to the winners of the race in each age group, and the event will also feature local music and craft vendors.

Those interested can register early at ugandanwaterproject.com/youngstown-state-university/. The price of registration includes a t-shirt and food courtesy of Chipotle. Local businesses interested in sponsoring may contact project organizer Georgia Kasamias at 330-506-0880.
