The Boardman girls indoor track team had its last indoor meet in Columbus at the Arnold Classic. Twenty-three members of the team traveled to the meet with four events placing in the top eight.
Leading the way for the Lady Spartans was junior Jordan Grantonic, placing third with a time of 11:42.96 in the 3200-meter run. Grantonic also ran on the seventh place 4x800 meter relay team with seniors Emma Schwendeman and Katelynn Morrell, and junior Regan O’Hara. They ran a personal season best of 10:15.35. The relay finished the indoor season ranked 23rd in the state.
Senior Morgan Hambrick placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 5 feet 0 inches and finished ranked 21st in the state. Junior Ka’nisha White placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet 4 1/4 inches. Also throwing the shot were sophomore Alexis Martinez and junior Faith Twyman with season best throws of 23 feet 11 inches.
In the pole vault, junior Brooke Harsh jumped 7 feet 0 inches and sophomore Cassie Harsh 6 feet 0 inches. Harsh also long jumped 11 feet 11 1/2 inches.
In the sprints, junior Hope Landers ran 10.73 and junior Stephanie DeMain ran 11.10. In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Arianna Cuevas ran 8.54 and sophomore Taylor Broll ran 9.82, all season best times. In the 400-meter dash, junior Regan O’Hara ran 65.85, junior Heaton O’Hara run 67.19 and junior Alexis Downie ran 73.77. In the 200, Cuevas ran 28.31, Landers 30.24 and DeMain 31.26. The A 4x200 meter relay team ran a season best time of 1:57.36 and included Cuevas, Heaton, O’Hara, Conner and Downie. The B 4x200 meter relay team of Broll, Brooke Harsh, Cassie Harsh and Twyman ran 2:07.87.
In the distance events, the B 4x800 meter relay team of seniors Brandi Gatte and Trista Cunningham, and freshmen Caitlyn Hadley and Abbey Evans ran 11:15.64. In the 1600-meter run, Morrell ran a season best time of 5:42.58, freshmen Emily Evans ran 6:37 and junior Haley Gianfrancesco ran 6:50.82. And in the 800-meter run, Cunningham ran 2:40.25 and Gatte ran 2:43.
The outdoor team began practice March 10 with approximately 65 girls coming out. The girls open up their outdoor season March 29 against Cleveland Beaumont and Youngstown Christian School.
