Boardman church sued over wife's fatal injury
A West Side man has sued a Boardman church and unnamed trustees and parishioners, saying his wife was fatally injured in a fall after she tripped on a tablecloth that extended to the floor at a church event, where food was served.
Gus Thomas, of Susan Circle, sued St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., saying his wife, Despina Thomas, 82, fell March 4, 2012, and died of her injuries a month later.
The lawsuit, which demands a jury trial and seeks more than $25,000 in damages, was filed recently in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and assigned to Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.
Father Thomas Constantine, church pastor, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Despina Thomas was a sister of former Ohio State Senator Harry Meshel.
