The Senior Ministry of Trinity Baptist Church, 235 Highland Ave. SW, offers a public Senior Health Care seminar that starts at noon Saturday at the church.

The featured speaker is John Saulitis, ombudsman for Area Agency on Aging 11, which acts as advocate, planner, funder and educator, and provides information and referral services. Reservations are requested but not required. Call 330-399-6733.

Asthma screenings


Jameson Asthma Care, a new service line at Jameson Hospital delivering asthma diagnostics, modern treatments and ongoing control of asthma, is offering free screenings from 3 to 6 p.m. March 27 at the Jameson Lung Center, Jameson Hospital North Campus, 1211 Wilmington Ave.

The screening event will give patients and their caregivers the opportunity to speak with asthma educators, participate in free diagnostic screenings to determine asthma severity, and find new resources for asthma treatment and management.

AIDS or HIV assistance


Mahoning County COMPASS Family and Community Services will receive $51,600 to provide to provide rental, mortgage and utility assistance and case management services to 337 people living with AIDS or HIV in Ashtabula, Columbiana, Jefferson, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

COMPASS was one of three nonprofit organizations to receive $1.2 million in funding to support housing opportunities for nearly 4,000 Ohioans living with AIDS or HIV through the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program grants.

Other agencies receiving funds are: AIDS Resource Center Ohio (Montgomery County), $947,700; and Community AIDS Network (Summit County), $220,000.

Help Hotline grant


Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. received a $5,000 grant from the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. The money will be used to help fund the 24/7 crisis hot line working with senior citizens, a high-risk group for suicide.

The grant will help cover services in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Help Hotline is also funded by the Area Agency on Aging, 11 Inc., the Mahoning County Mental Health Board, the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board, and the Mahoning and Trumbull Counties United Ways.

New oncologist


Dr. Sue Tobin, a board certified medical oncologist, is a new staff member of Sharon Regional Health System’s Cancer Care Center, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage.

Dr. Tobin and her colleagues specialize in chemotherapy administration, blood administration, biological response modifiers, intravenous infusions, injections, and also support participation in national clinical trials.

Tobin completed a medical oncology fellowship at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Mich., and an internal medicine residency at Ingham Regional Medical Center and Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Free seminar on knee replacement


Dr. Edward Uberti, UPMC Horizon orthopedic surgeon, will discuss total-knee replacement and patient-specific partial-knee surgery at a free seminar at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 27.
