Superseding indictment issued in drug case

Staff report

A man who served prison time for a mob killing in the 1990s was issued a superseding indictment on drug charges by a Mahoning County grand jury.

George Wilkins, 40, of McClure Street, Struthers, was indicted Thursday on eight counts of trafficking in heroin, as well as two counts of trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to trafficking in heroin, conspiracy to trafficking in cocaine and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity with a forfeiture specification.

Also indicted on the conspiracy counts and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity was Terrence Wilkerson, 37, of the Bronx, N.Y.

The two are accused of conspiring to distribute the drugs between April and August 2013.

Wilkins was one of three men accused and sentenced for carrying out the June 3, 1996, slaying of 53-year-old Ernie Biondillo as he was driving to work on the East Side.

Later investigation showed that Wilkins and the other two men acted to carry out a plot by former mob boss Lenny Strollo, who wanted Biondillo killed because they were organized-crime rivals.

Wilkins along with two other men, Cleveland Blair and Jeffrey Riddle, were sentenced to prison for their roles in the murder. Wilkins was sentenced to 13 years and four months, while Blair received a 15-year sentence, and Riddle received a sentence of life in prison.

In October, police stopped Wilkins in a car he was driving and found $1 million in drugs. He has been in jail since then.
