Gardening Design

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

What: Wanting to plan an ornamental garden and not sure where to start? Bridget Beck will cover basic design elements, including concepts of order, unity and rhythm. Discuss the use of color and form and how to apply it when designing an ornamental garden. One-part lecture on design theory, one-part workshop in applying the theories when choosing perennials.

Fruit & Vegetable School for Farmers

When: Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

What: Intense workshop covering diseases, insects, large-scale composting, berry production. Intended for rural and urban farmers.

What: Lots of great classes for small business in the nursery or landscape business, offered by Mahoning Valley Nursery & Landscape Association.

Managing Canada Geese

When: Next Thursday, 6-8 p.m.

What: Learn more about conflict management with Canada geese at a seminar led by Ohio Division of Wildlife.

Orchid Clinic

When: March 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

What: Have an orchid that needs a little TLC? Dave Miller and Jackie Land will walk you through repotting your own orchid. Bring any problem orchids for help to get them back on track. Plus, receive an orchid to repot in class and take home. Orchid bark mix will be available for sale at a nominal cost. Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Beyond The Shovel

When: March 18, 6-8 p.m.

What: Eric Barrett, OSU Ext. educator, will present expert knowledge about choosing and using farm and garden tools and equipment.

Where: Demonstration Kitchen, 822 Billingsgate Ave. at back of Iron Roots Urban Farm.
