Alexa Ray Joel nails down NY residency
While Billy Joel continues to sell out Madison Square Garden, his daughter will be tackling a smaller New York stage.
The Cafe Carlyle said Tuesday that Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, will perform April 1-12.
Her six-time Grammy-winning father is playing the Garden every month for as long as New Yorkers demand.
The younger Joel has released the six-song EP “Sketches” and a single, “Notice Me.” In 2011, she had her own residency at the storied Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel.
Her new gig will take her to the lounge inside the Hotel Carlyle on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a place where Elaine Stritch and Bobby Short performed. Prices range from $50 to $110.
More good news for the Oscars
The Nielsen ratings company has slightly raised its estimate of Sunday’s Oscars viewer- ship to 43.7 million people.
Tuesday’s new estimate added 700,000 viewers to what Nielsen had said a day earlier and makes the audience the biggest of any Academy Awards show since 2000.
The Oscars glow spread to host Ellen DeGeneres, whose daytime talk show Monday recorded the highest ratings in its 11-year history.
Even though ABC easily won the week’s prime-time ratings race with the Oscars boost, NBC’s viewership was up 53 percent from the same week a year before. That reflected a continued bump for NBC from the Winter Olympics and a reminder of just how dreadful the network’s performance was last winter.
