5 sirens fail Mahoning County emergency-warning test

Published: Wed, March 5, 2014 @ 11:55 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Five of Mahoning County’s 51 emergency-warning sirens failed to activate for the three-minute annual test at 9:50 a.m. today, said Dennis O’Hara, interim county emergency management director.

The silent sirens were at Campbell Memorial and Struthers high schools, the county engineer’s office, and the Austintown Township government and Canfield maintenance buildings.

O’Hara said his office will diagnose the problems with the silent sirens and put them back in service. The test was performed in conjunction with the statewide observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
