First Christian Church of Girard, 140 E. Broadway Ave.: Beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing on Wednesdays throughout April 16, the church will be open from noon to 1 p.m. for quiet reflection, silent Scripture reading, prayer and self-serving communion. A prayer guide will be available.

Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman: A prayer vigil is planned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ash Wednesday. Members are asked to sign up for half-hour to hour slots; members will pray at their homes or at the church. A service will be at 6 p.m.


Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren: Service at 10 a.m. in the chapel and 7 p.m. in church.

St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman: Service at 7 p.m. with Holy Eucharist.

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown: Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 6 to 8 p.m. Imposition of ashes at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. with the Rev. Allan Belton.

Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty: The Rev. David Gilbert, senior pastor, will be in the sanctuary from 6 to 7 p.m. for imposition of ashes. A meditation guide will be available.

Trinity United Methodist Church, 30 W. Front St., Youngstown: Service at 6:30 p.m. with imposition of ashes, worship and reflection.


Ellsworth Presbyterian Church, 11171 Akron-Canfield Road, Ellsworth, and Lake Milton Presbyterian Church will conduct a joint Ash Wednesday service with communion at 7 p.m. at Ellsworth. The Rev. Bonnie Dutton will preside, and Frances Fischer, ministry candidate, will preach.

First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown: Vesper service with ashes at 7 p.m. in Helen Chapel with short meditation by the Rev. Carolyn Griffeth preceded by board of deacons’ covered-dish dinner at 6. Members of Butler Memorial Church, John Knox Presbyterian and Hungarian Presbyterian Church are invited.

First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., Mineral Ridge: A free fish dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a service at 7 in the sanctuary that will include the celebration of the Lord’s Supper and the imposition of ashes.

Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor, Poland: Services will be at noon and 7 p.m. with communion and imposition of ashes. The evening service also will include a choir with members from the host church, Westminster Presbyterian, Pleasant Grove Presbyterian, Canfield Presbyterian and Wickliffe Presbyterian churches.

Westminister Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman: Service at 4 p.m. in the chapel.
