Fired Mahoning JFS worker reinstated

Published: Tue, June 24, 2014 @ 12:34 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN

An arbiter has ordered Helen Youngblood, president of American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees Local 2001, reinstated to her $53,000 a year job as a trainer at the Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services.

Robert E. Bush Jr., JFS director, said she would be returning to work “as soon as practical, probably within the next week.”

The county commissioners fired her on Nov. 9 for asking a supervisor in an e-mail if the supervisor had a lynching rope ready for a disciplinary hearing for Youngblood’s co-worker.

The arbiter ruled that Youngblood should be suspended without pay for six months.

Having already served that time off the job, the arbiter, E. William Lewis, ruled Monday that she is to be paid at her regular rate from April 10 until her reinstatement.

I would have been fired for such absurd unprofessional unacceptable behavior. Why must we continue to employ her???

Only in the public sector. You have to start voting no to taxes.

This may be out of context. What was she responding to that led to that statement? I won't really take a side, but usually people don't just randomly say things like that for no reason.

If I did what she did, I would've been arrested, flogged, and bushwhacked. She's a pig anyways!

It never ceases to amaze me how ultra sensitive this nation has become to a simple comment.

What ever happened to the rugged people who pioneered this country? They would not have survived with such sensitivity.

Typical. She only got the job because she is black and she only won the arbitration because is black. If it was reversed Youngstown would be rioting.
