The Boardman boys track team will send two runners to the 2014 OHSAA state championship at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University. Representing the Spartans will be seniors Mark Hadley and Alan Burns.
Burns earned his first trip to the state meet by placing third overall in the 1600 in a personal best time of 4:18. Ahead of Burns were Twinsburg’s Garret Crichlow and Solon’s Kevin Blank. Finishing fourth was Hudson’s Gavin Gaynor.
“I am absolutely thrilled for Alan,” said Boardman head coach John Phillips. “He has been asked to do a lot for our team this year due to injuries to other athletes and if there was ever someone who deserves a state berth it’s Alan.”
Hadley earned his third consecutive trip to Columbus by finishing third in the 3200 with a regional record breaking time of 9:09. Ahead of Hadley were Chardon’s Nick Elswick and Hudson’s Kyle Mau. Finishing fourth was Howland’s Ryan Sullivan.
“Since returning from injury last month, Hadley has had a very disciplined and focused plan,” said Phillips. “He is in a great position to contend for the state championship in the 3200 on Saturday evening.”
