Seaman Apprentice Timothy Fernstrom, a senior at Canfield High School, completed the 10 mile road march with a 40-pound ruck sack, combat boots and uniform in his effort to obtain a slot at the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Urban Counter-Insurgency (UCOIN) school being hosted in Atterbury, Ind. in July. After Fersntrom successfully completed the 10 mile road march in 84 degree heat and in less the two hours and 30 minutes, he had to complete 42 push-ups in two minutes, 50 sit-ups in two minutes, eight chin-ups and then run 1.5 miles in less than 11 minutes and 30 seconds. Accompanying SA Fernstrom and administering the test is U.S. Navy Reservist HM2 Benjamin Katzman.
Fernstrom is a member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps’ Knighthawk Squadron located at the U.S. Air Force Base in Vienna. Fernstrom’s goal is to become part of the U.S. Navy SEAL community and he has applied to UCOIN to better prepare himself for his future aspirations.
Fernstrom recently ran in the Joggin’ for Frogmen event in April, which was conducted at Canfield High School, taking first place in his category for completing the run in boots. The Joggin’ for Frogmen event supports Navy SEALs and their families.
