Cops find dozen bags of pot, more than $1K in cash
Police found more than $1,200 in cash and seized suspected marijuana and heroin from a South Side house Sunday afternoon.
Arraigned Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court was Carlos Herring, 26, of West Boston Avenue on felony charges of trafficking in drugs (marijuana) and possession of drugs (heroin) as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police were called to another home on West Boston about 12:30 p.m. for a report of someone stripping siding off a vacant house. When they pulled up, they could smell marijuana coming from another home on the street and went there, reports said.
A woman came out of that home and appeared nervous, and then Herring came out, reports said. Reports also said officers had gotten a call earlier that day for suspected drug activity at the residence.
Police went inside with the woman to get her pit-bull puppy, reports said. Inside, they discovered the toilet was broken, the floor was covered with dog feces, and there were no clothes and no furniture other than a few chairs, reports said.
Police found a bag of suspected heroin, 10 small bags of suspected marijuana, two medium-size bags of suspected marijuana and $1,245 in cash.
Herring had an electric bill in his name for the house, but there was no water at the home, reports said. He was taken to Mahoning County jail.
