Shots fired after attempted robbery at Boardman supermarket

Published: Mon, June 2, 2014 @ 6:55 p.m.

BOARDMAN — A shopliftling turned into an attempted robbery which turned into an attempted assault and shots fired at the Sparkle Market on South Avenue this afternoon.

Boardman Police Sgt. Brian Habeger said police were called to the store at 4:35 p.m. after a man trying to steal shrimp would not stop for a security guard. He pushed the security guard and fled, which made the crime an attempted robbery instead of a shoplifting.

The guard chased the man out of the store to the street, then turned to go back inside, Habeger said. At that point, a car with a man and a woman in it tried to run him over in the parking lot.

The guard, who works for a private security company and is licensed to carry a gun, fired two shots at the car, Habeger said.

Police don’t know if anything was hit, and they are continuing to investigate. The guard was not injured.

The three suspects, two men and one woman in their 30s to 40s, were in a green Dodge Intrepid.

Hey! You forgot the cocktail sauce. Boardman has been getting a lot good stories like this daily. What's the deal?

DID the security guard at least hit the car? Three idiots in a green dodge intrepid should not be hard to find if the guard hit the car.

Sounds like the car was going away and this guy shot at it ??? All for some shrimp. Was there other people in the parking lot? Did he shoot across the road ??

Sounds like the security guard needs some additional training. Some shrimp isn't worth accidentally hitting an innocent bystander if he misses his shot.

Sounds like the last 2 posters completely missed the mark. The article says the security guard shot because the car was attempting to run him over, not because they stole shrimp.

An appetite is a terrible thing to waste. So did the frustrated shopper end up with any shrimp?

It would help if we knew if the suspects were white, black or Mexican? Cannot be to many green intrepids driving around especially possibly with a bullet hole in them!
