UPDATE: Both sides in Ukraine deny shooting down plane

Published: Thu, July 17, 2014 @ 1:32 p.m.

GRABOVO, Ukraine (AP) - Ukraine says a passenger plane carrying 295 people was shot down today as it flew over the country, and both the government and the pro-Russia separatists who have been fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the plane. As plumes of black smoke rose up near a rebel-held village in eastern Ukraine, the fate of the 280 passengers and 15 crew aboard Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 was not immediately known.
